ಲೇಪಾಕ್ಷಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸ

In continuation with this year's theme of lines and patterns, ಪರಿವಾರ went on a field trip to ಲೇಪಾಕ್ಷಿ . This trip is the second in the learning series preceded by ಹಸೆ-ಚಿತ್ತಾರ workshop and will be followed by ಕಲಾಂಕಾರಿ workshop. The students got a visual overview of the temple architecture, murals and sculptures of the 16th century. The visit also included two other places of significance.

Vidurashwatha, a village located in the Gauribidanur taluk of Chikkaballapur district. The name is derived from that of a big ಅಶ್ವಥ ಮರ (sacred fig tree). According to a legend of the times of ಮಹಾಭಾರತ, this tree was planted by ವಿದುರ, and hence the name ವಿದುರಾಶ್ವಥ. More importantly, this place has a significance from the freedom struggle. This place is known as the Jalianwalabagh of Southern India. Many freedom fighters martyred while hoisting the Indian flag here.

On the way back, we visited the ಶ್ರೀ ಭೋಗ ನಂದೀಶ್ವರ temple at the foothills of Nandi Hills. This temple is centuries old, with ornate carved pillars & a beautiful ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಿ.

While there was learning, the travelling together was fun as well. Kids and parents enjoyed the day outing.
